The Charlottesville music community is absolutely flourishing! I enjoy my place in the community so much, from being a music teacher, to my freelance performing on violin and viola. I am classically trained, but love many genres of music, and have performed on Baroque period instruments, in American musicals, Old Time and Celtic fiddle music, rock, and jazz in addition to classical music and opera concerts.
My teaching philosophy:
Music is a creative process, and I encourage my students to be creative in their playing: through learning to hold/play the instrument properly to prevent injury, how to use and move the body to make a beautiful sound, and how to listen and collaborate with other musicians. All of my students receive training in note reading and music theory, and many learn to write their own music and improvise. My goal for every student is that they find joy in making music, and are confident in their creativity and abilities as a musician.
