I love teaching and I love music, and I feel so lucky that I am able to teach music for a living. I have played the piano since I was four years old and I started taking on students in 2004, when I was a student at UVa. I have been teaching piano to local students ever since.

In addition to my years of teaching piano, I spent seven years teaching math at Jack Jouett Middle School. I left after the 2013-2014 school year so that I could put my full attention into my piano teaching. I have recently moved into a new home with a separate space for my piano studio, complete with private waiting room for parents or siblings if interested.

I love to teach to my students' interests and abilities. For my youngest students, I break up our lessons with coloring activities, rhythm sticks, and movement across the floor. Of course, there are stickers at the end of each lesson! I have students who do very well with studying theory and technique, while others really prefer pop and movie songs. I will search for obscure music or versions that are appropriate for each student's level. I have some students who play by ear, while others are very literal readers. I have several students who compose their own music and who work with me to perfect it before performances. I love to play duets with my students who are ready, and I have helped a few sets of siblings prepare duets for performance as well. Some students love my "Karate Piano" flash card system, and work hard to memorize music symbols and notes from week to week so that they can earn their belts! I have had students accompany others at their recitals, perform for music classes at school, and join bands and ensembles as their pianist.

I hold annual recitals that all students are invited to join, and as other performance opportunities arise, I make them available to whomever might be interested. I love for my students to be excited about piano, so a joy and passion for music are my first priorities. Once that is established, all the rest will fall into place. Please contact me! I would love to hear from you.
