I have taught students of all ages and levels for over twenty years. I shape my instruction to help my students meet their individual goals whether they want to compete in competitions, perform in a recital, audition for an ensemble, or play “Happy Birthday” for Grandma. One of my primary goals is to help students produce a beautiful tone because I believe a good sound, along with strong technical facility and solid rhythmic understanding, will lead to more enjoyment in music making at every level of playing. My lessons cover the basics of theory, incorporate call-and-response and various pedagogical games to inspire enjoyment in learning, and frequently end with sight-reading of duets. I use a “milestones” chart to encourage students to reach specific technical and memorization goals. I am Suzuki certified for Books 1 and 2 and use this approach in teaching my youngest students (ages 4 through 10), supplementing with other methods and materials that I have used over the years. Ultimately, I want my students to have enriching musical experiences that will have a lasting impact on their lives.
